ARAMA (or Association de Recherche et d’Appui aux Mouvements Associatifs or Association for Research and Support to Associations) is a local Non-Governmental Organization legally registered and operating in Rwanda since 2003.
It is headquartered in Kigali, but it has a sub-office in within Ngoma District premises.
Its mission is to act as a catalyst for a positive and sustainable change on low and medium income people to enable them to improve their livelihoods.
It strives for the protection, well-being and participation of the poor in making a fairer society.
The vision of ARAMA is to build a community in which the dignity of people flows from mutual respect for differences and in which people can provide for and enjoy the comforts and necessities of life by working together.
A General Assembly, a Board of Directors, and a Board of Auditors monitor the association’s growth and implementation of its projects.
An executive Director is responsible for coordinating its projects’ day-to-day operations, assisted by a team of competent and experienced staff members. Its technical performance is built on participatory planning, realistic budgeting, and rational expenditure management with emphasis on efficiency, cost effectiveness, accountability, integrity, service culture and transparency. It has a strong financial management record as its accounts are audited at the end of every financial year to the satisfaction of donors, partners and the recipient communities.
Present activities :
From January 2009, ARAMA is working with local authorities in Ngoma District to prevent and effectively respond to violence against women at community level. The project provides legal and psychological counseling, social and economic support to women through direct assistance and income generating activities.
Completed projects :
- 1. In 2008, Awareness raising campaign Project financed by the United Nations Development Fund For Women (UNIFEM) to educate the general public and the local authorities in Ngoma District on laws and policies protecting women from Gender-based violence ;
- 2. In 2007, Development of economically viable pig-fish-bamboo farming project for integrated fish production and protection of Kagasa Dam ecosystems, Kirehe District of Eastern Province » supported by Nile Basin Initiative through UNDP/UNOPS. The project has involved the local communities in environmental awareness and has supported vulnerable women’s households in income generating activities (fish farming and pig rearing)
- 3. Enhancing unity and reconciliation community Initiatives financed by the EU delegation through National Unity and reconciliation commission to support 10 grassroots associations with the best practices in unity and reconciliation in Rwamagana, Kayonza, Ngoma and Kirehe districts, awareness campaign on unity and reconciliation through radio magazines, drama and song competitions.
- 4. Multi-sectoral Aids project (MAP) financed by the World Bank MAP and National Aids Control Commission where ARAMA was selected as an implementing partner agency to support Kayonza, Ngoma and Kirehe Districts in implementing 37 sub-projects from associations of 5771 people infected and affected by HIV / AIDS (80% of them were women).
The project provided support to income generating activities, vocational training, medical care to poor families, psychological counseling, school fees to orphans and vulnerable children.
